All these will help to chalk out the programs for

reducing malnutrition and hunger in the rural areas as in most developed countries. Farming is the best safety net against hunger and keeping the production cost under control without sacrificing crop yield for survival.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

B.L. JANA , stood first M.Sc. (Ag.) Agronomy in 1970 with from the Faculty of Agriculture, Kalyani University (now BCKV). He obtained Diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication from Kolkata. He visited Professional Training in Agricultural Research from the East Anglia University, Norwich, England. Dr Jana has undergone FAI training on Rainfed Agriculture in collaboration with ICRISAT, Hyderabad and HFC.

He served the erstwhile Fertiliser Corporation of India, (FCI), subsequently the Hindustan Fertiliser Corporation (HFC) as a Senior Agronomist looking after field promotional activities and Technical Publicity, FP & ARD and ODA-funded Rainfed Farming Project, etc. Also served as the Training Organiser of ICAR-funded Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kalyan, Purulia  and Kapgari of Paschim Medinipore district of West Bengal.

He has authored 16  Agricultural books in Bengali by Bharati Book Stall, Kolkata and 12 other Agricultural books in English published by the Agrotech Publishing Academy, Udaipur-313002.

So far, he has published more than 110 agricultural papers in English and 2000 articles in Bengali in the Journals of national and international repute.

L.L. Somani (b.1945) Retired Director (Rl) & Dean PG Studies, MPUAT Udaipur has over 400 papers published in National and International Journals/ Symposia, etc. and 16 dozen of books to his credit in different disciplines of Agriculture and allied field. He held different positions in MPUAT, has Spreaded highly innovative ideas, and programmes for development of Agriculture. Prof. Somani has been honoured with several awards.
