ABOUT THE AUTHOR

The author Dr. Bhupal Singh Chundawat, former vice-chancellor of Gujarat Agricultural University and Sardar-krushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, Sardarkrushi Nagar (Gujarat), was born on 15th February, 1940 in a humble background of village Manyas, Tehsil – Rashmi, Dist. Chittoregarh (Rajasthan). He graduated in Agriculture from Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur and obtained his Masters in Horticulture and Ph.D. degrees from Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, with distinction (Gold Medal) and did post-doctorate from Chiba University, Japan. He started his career as Horticulturist in H.A.U. Hisar (Haryana) followed by Professor of Horticulture at Navsari campus of GAU, where he became Dean Horticulture, Director of Campus and finally the Vice-Chancellor, the highest post in academics. During this journey, he was involved in research on fruit crops, education and establishment of academic and research institutes at state and national level. His contribution in research; teaching and institutional management was highly acclaimed, honoured and validated of which life time achieve-ment award by Indian Society of Citriculture and Horticultural Society of India, Sardar Patel Award for research by government of Gujarat, and Hari Om Ashram Award are worth mentioning.

Professionally being a teacher and researcher in the field of horticulture, he has written a number of books based on facts and experience for the students and practioners of horticulture. Important titles are Arid Fruit Culture, Principles and Practices of Agroforestry, Principles of Fruit Culture, Nutrient Management in Fruit Crops, Tropical and Subtropical Fruit Crops (Hindi), Fruit and Vegetable Preservation, Saptoa, Banana, Mango, The glimpse of the developed, etc. He continues to serve the cause of horticulture through valuable literature.
