Vegetables have played a vital role in enhancing the most return per unit area per and also nutritious food for mankind. In india, vegetable production has been receiving considerable attentionas most of the people are vegetarian. Vegetable seed production and supply programme are playing an important role towards food and nutrition sufficiencyand, the improvement of yield and farmers’ income. Of all agricultural inputs,the seed is very crucial, critical and vital input for attending the sustained growth in production. The timely acvailability of not only quality seed but of adequate quantity at the farmer’ doorstep is absolutely necessary for increased production. In fact, in its absence, not only productivity goes down, but also the farmers’ investments of other inputs such as fertilizers, pesticides, irrigation etc. are rendered  practically useless. Thus the entire economy of the farmer is destroyed. Much of our success in increasing vegetable production has been due to development of vegetable seed industry over the past decades. Presently the quality of seed requirement is high but but the available information on vegetable seed production technology is scattered in large number of research publication. Thus there is urgent need to bring togather  all the information at one place. To acheve this aim, the authors have come together to synthesize all information in the form of this valuable book entitled “ SEED PRODUCTION OF COMMERCIAL VAGATABLES’ Second Edition for the benefit of UG and PG students of all the SAUs and Agricultural/horticultural colleges of the country.

Efforts have been made to cover the seed production technology of vegetables as prescribed by the 5th Dean’s Committee Syllabi of ICAR. The book will be equally useful for progressive farmers, seed producers besides seed industries.
