Description
ABOUT THE BOOK
The book has been written to cover the core course, ‘Fundamental of Soil Science’ in the discipline of Soil Science as per the syllabus recommended by Fifth Deans’ Committee of ICAR at Undergraduate level in all State Agricultural Universities and Agricultural Colleges in the country It is equally useful for young faculty members and as a reference source for other users. It contains 22 chapters providing a brief account of evolution and composition of the Earth followed by the concepts of soil, soil forming rocks and minerals, soil genesis and chapters on soil profile, soil composition, volume-mass relationships, soil texture, soil structure, soil consistency and plasticity, soil crusting and soil compaction, soil colour, soil water, soil temperature and soil air. The book further elaborates the systems of soil classification, major soils of India, soil reaction, soil colloids, soil organic matter and finally soil organisms and their significance in agriculture, through its other chapters. The book has been written in a simple and lucid language with several figures and illustrations for ease in comprehension of the subject matter. The book is very comprehensive publication and readers’ do not have to refer to other books for basic understanding of the fundamentals of Soil Science Hopefully, the book will serve as a text book for undergraduate students in agriculture and allied fields.
