Description

ABOUT THE BOOK

Scientific social measurement is the theme of the book. An attempt is made to develop scientific attitude, and their operationalisation for proper developed scales for measuring the variables. The procedure of developing these techniques is described in detail, which is followed, by the actual scale and its utilization. These scales can be used as such or new scales can be developed by following procedure laid down in the book.

This textbook on Scaling and Measurements Techniques in Behavioural Sciences for postgraduate studies in Social and Behavioural sciences is certain to serve as a handbook for research scholars and supervisors of the several disciplines in Universities, Colleges and Research Institutions. The book is the result of a unique combination of both theoretical and practical aspects of research with ample numerical scales from Doctoral Theses and Research Journals. We feel the book will be very useful also because adequate coverage of important areas such as variables and their measurements, scaling techniques and construction of test and scales. These have been clarified with standardized measurement procedure from field studies.

The book covers useful socio-personal, agro-economic, communicational, and psychological, livelihood variables, and various scales developed by different authors. The book consist of six chapters namely scientific procedures, Psychological testing, scaling and measuring attitudes in behavioural research, Measurements in Behavioural Sciences, Attitude Scales, Communication and adoption scales and other measurements techniques. It is hoped that this book will be useful to the students and teachers but to the social scientists in general and researchers in extension education, in particular for conducting research.
