Large numbers of extension programmes are in progress. Inspite of importance given to those programmes people are reluctant or unable to accept change. A close scrutiny of the constraints shows the absence of understanding of the concepts, philosophy, objectives methods and entrepreneurship in managing these programmes. The importance of extension education for rural development made it imperative to introduce it in educational curiculla of B.Sc.(Ag.), S.Sc(Hort.), S.Sc.(Forestry), B.Sc. (Home Science), B.Sc.(Fisheries) B. Tech (Dairy) and such other courses. ICAR recently revised the syllabus of these courses in the light of the recent advances. ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Late Dr. S.V. Supe, MA (Eco.), M.Sc.(Agr.), Ph.D. (IARI) has worked as Professor and Head, Department of Extension Education and Associate Dean at Dr. Punjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vishvidyapeeth, Akola. During his career he was closely associated with undergraduate, post graduate teaching and guided several M.Sc. and Ph.D. students. Now also he is councellor and guide for PhD students at Yeshwantrao Chavan Maharastra Open University Nasik in Agricultural Commission. He contributed a large number of reviews and research articles to journals of repute and published 18 books related to extension education.

L.L. Somani is Retired Director, Resident Instructions, MPUAT, Udaipur. He went To Waite Agricultural Research Institute, Adelaide, Australia for undertaking Post-doctoral work (1975-77). He has over 400 research and technical articles to his credit. He has authored/edited over a dozen of books in Extension Education and farm communication.
