Insecticides, the chemicals used to control harmful insect modern agriculture. Although the are used extensively for protection of agricultural crops against noxius pests yet they are thought to be major pollutants of food and environment. This book furnishes a detailed account of insecticides, their properties, mode of action, biotransformation, uses on different agricultural crops, the problem of toxicity, residues, resistance and environmental contamination. The ways and means towards safe use of insecticides to avoid the fear of insecticides hazards are explained in depth. The chapters on intervention of insecticides in IPM programme and insecticidal act are of special interest.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dr. H.C.L. Gupta (b1948) is formal Professor and Head, Department of Entomology, Rajasthan Agricultural University, R.C.A., Udaipur. He did his M.Sc. (Ag.) in Entomoly in 1968 and Ph.D. in 1976 with specialization in Toxicology. He prosses 40 years research and teaching experience in the field of Applied Entomoly, Insect Toxicology and Residues. He has guided 1 Post Doctoral Fellow, 12 Ph.D. and 10 M.Sc. scholars. He has contributed more than 120 research papers in national and international journals besides several popular articles, chapters in books and two books. He has done extensive work on phytotoxicity, bioefficancy, residues and Shelf-life of severl pesticides under PL-480, ICAR Hexamar and BPM projects and Presented several papers in national and international conferences in India and abroad. He is founder member and President of the Entomological Research Association, Udaipur. He retired from the post of Dean, Collage of Agriculture, MPUAR, Udaipur in 2008.
