This is a book on dimensions of Extension Education. Extension education is education for rural people for bringing out social, cultural development as well as overall rural and agriculture development. The book begins with conceptual issues in extension and tries to establish relations and bring out the contradictions in the concepts of Extension Education. Extension Education plays a vital and major role in agriculture and rural development.

The main objectives of the book are- To understand the concept and dimensions of extension education. To know about rural development and different rural development programmes in India from independence and before independence. To know the role and importance of extension education. To know current issues and schemes for rural development.

This book includes the history and development of Extension Education and also includes new dimensions of Extension Education. It also includes different developmental programmes related to agricultural development and extension education. It consists of chapters pertaining dimensions of extension viz., Education & its types; Extension education; Rural development; Developmental programmes – Pre & Post independence era; Community development programme; National Extension Services; Panchayat Raj system; Agricultural developmental programmes; Social justice and poverty alleviation programmes; Women development programmes, Reorganized extension system,  Broad-Based Agricultural Extension, District Rural Development Agency, Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), New Approaches in Extension Syatem, Privatisation in Extension System, etc.

ABOUT THE EDITORS

L.L. Somani is Retired Director, Resident Instructions, MPUAT, Udaipur. He went to Waite Agricultural Research Institute, Adelaide, Australia to undertake Post-doctoral work (1975-77). He has over 400 research and technical articles to his credit. He has authored/edited over 18 dozen of books related to Agriculture.

Mrs. Priyanka Rana (b. 1992) is presently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Extension Education, School of Agricultural Sciences (SoAS), Dabok, Udaipur (Rajasthan). She has 4 years of experience in teaching, training and extension at the university level. Mrs. Rana earned her Master’s Degree in the Department of Home Science Extension & Communication Management, College of Home Science, MPUAT, Udaipur.

She has authored three chapters in different books related to her discipline, published one book entitled TEXTBOOK OF AGRICULTURAL JOURNALISM  published by the Agrotech Publishing Academy, five research papers in journals of national and international repute besides one book chapter, eight technical articles in various agricultural magazines. She is teaching almost all the courses prescribed for B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons. Degree) and is acting as In-Charge of RAWE programme at the college level.
