ABOUT THE BOOK

India has a long tradition of floriculture. As it is an ancient creative skill with imagination and an advanced science that played a very important role in the course of human civilization and its social development.  In most part of the country, flower growing is carried out on small holdings and commercial floriculture has assumed importance only in the recent past.

Traditionally, flowers have been grown in India in the open fields, where they have been exposed to both biotic and abiotic stresses. Hence, the quality is not up to the standards.  However, in the era of globalization, the produce has to be of International quality and globally competitive, as there is lot of demand for different floricultural products in the export market. The modern floriculture will meet the above demand of the present day’s consumers. Now the role of floriculture in the economic prosperity of our country is well established.

Export of floricultural products to foreign markets has brought about rapid development in commercial floriculture.

The long felt demand of the students of horticulture has prompted us take the initiative in writing this book covering the entire syllabus prescribed by 5^th dean’s committee of ICAR.this book provides comprehensive information on the scpe and  importance of commercial floriculture, package of practices for the cultivation and post-harvest handling  of commercially important flower crops viz. Rose,. Marigold, Chrysanthemun, Orchid, Carnation, Gladiolus, Jasmine, Crossandra, Anthurium, Dahlia, Tuberose, Bird of Paradise, China Aster and Gerbera. The book also describes Production Techniques of Flowers and Foliage Filler Materials, Growing of Flowers under Protected Environments,  Postharvest Technology of Cut Flowers, . Dehydration Technique for Drying of Flowers besides Production Techniques for Bulbous Ornamentals.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Dr. B. L. Jagetiya (born, 1969) did his M.Sc. (1992) and Ph.D. (1998) from MLSU, Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. Presently he is serving as Head, Post Graduate Department of Botany, M.L.V. Government College, Bhilwara, Rajasthan, India. He has been working as faculty member in this College since 1996. He has contributed in the host Institute in teaching, research and administrative work as convener and member of many important committees. His significant contribution in the college is completing the assessment and accreditation process of NAAC as convener of Steering Committee in the year 2016. He is also appointed as Director of IQAC and Project Coordinator of DST-FIST scheme. He has visited Heraklion, Greece on academic mission. He has published more than 105 research papers in journals of National and International repute. He has published 10 high level reference and text books, completed several major and minor research projects funded from DAE-BRNS, CSIR, UGC and supervised Doctoral thesis of 12 students and 3 senior research fellows. His scientific interests are in the field of Phytoremediation, Geobotany and Environmental Sciences.

LAXMI LAL Somani is Retired Director Resident Instructions, MPUAT, Udaipur. He has over 400 research and technical articles to his credit. He has authored/edited over 145 scholarly books in various field of agriculture. Prof. Somani has been honored with several academic excellence awards for his outstanding achievements.
