Description
ABOUT THE BOOK
Agriculture is the important source of livelihood for the majority of population in India. In developing countries, where three out of four poor people live in rural areas depending only on agriculture, improving poor farmers’ livelihoods is central for addressing rural development. As has been mentioned in many studies, organic, rain fed agriculture and livestock could contribute substantially to farmers’ food security and improve their livelihoods. The book emphasizes the complexity of studying rural livelihoods and the need to assess interactions within livelihood systems and between them and their wider economic, social, and political environments. The book provides a comprehensive data on the capabilities, livelihood security, opportunities and problems related to small and marginal farming community. A number of core challenges are identified, centered on the need to inject a more thorough-going political analysis into the centre of livelihoods perspectives. This will be useful and informative for researchers, policy makers, community based organizations and all those interested in the field of agriculture and well being of rural population. It would also help the planners to strengthen programmes and give guidelines to organizations involved in straitening farming community at grassroots level.
