Description

ABOUT THE BOOK

We’ve already learned that much of the world’s soils are becoming less fertile. But what exactly does soil fertility mean? Some define soil fertility simply as the capacity of the soil to supply nutrients to the plant. Using the definition, a fertile soil one that contains an adequate supply of all the nutrients required for the successful production of plant life .Fertilization is an important issue because it is needed in order to produce enough food for the increasing population from the decreasing cultivated land, but too much or inappropriate use can be detrimental to the environment. A productive soil should contain all the essential plant nutrients in sufficient quantity and in balanced proportions. The nutrients must also be present in an available form before plants can use them. Inadequacy of any one of these elements will inhibit plants from growing to their full potential.

The present book entitled Soil Fertility and Crop Productivity at a Glance” is a compilation work and embodies a fairly comprehensive treatment of the basic type questions on fundamental facts and aspects of soil fertility & Crop productivity. This book has been written to cover the courses offered by various Indian Universities for Graduate and Post-graduate levels and also the syllabi of various competitive examinations. Hope this volume would be useful for graduate and post-graduate students of Agriculture in general and Agronomy, Soil science and Plant Physiology in particular in all State Agricultural Universities (SAUs. This will also be useful for those appearing in competitive examinations such as agricultural research service (ARS), National Eligibility Test (NET), State Level Eligibility Test (SLET), and Civil Services Examinations.

The book would help them to revise the entire course of Soil Fertility and Crop Productivity within a short time and to recollect the vast knowledge they gained by reading different books on soil fertility Nutrient Management etc for sustained productivity.
