India has a long tradition of floriculture. As it is an ancient creative skill with imagination and an advanced science that played a very important role in the course of human civilization and its social development.  In most part of the country, flower growing is carried out on small holdings and commercial floriculture has assumed importance only in the recent past.

Traditionally, flowers have been grown in India in the open fields, where they have been exposed to both biotic and abiotic stresses. Hence, the quality is not up to the standards.  However, in the era of globalization, the produce has to be of International quality and globally competitive, as there is lot of demand for different floricultural products in the export market. The modern floriculture will meet the above demand of the present day’s consumers. Now the role of floriculture in the economic prosperity of our country is well established.

Export of floricultural products to foreign markets has brought about rapid development in commercial floriculture.

The long felt demand of the students of horticulture has prompted us take the initiative in writing this book covering the entire syllabus prescribed by 5th dean’s committee of ICAR.this book provides comprehensive information on the scpe and  importance of commercial floriculture, package of practices for the cultivation and post-harvest handling  of commercially important flower crops viz. Rose,. Marigold, Chrysanthemun,  Carnation, Gladiolus, Jasmine, and Tuberose,. The book also describes cut foliage and cut greens in addition to seed production of annual flowers.
